Do I have Herpes/Cold sores? - herpes mouth sores pictures

It's Christmas break, to fly to see my family and I have very chapped lips (keep in mind that was about 18 degrees). One morning I woke up with a red and hard in my mouth, I am concerned that it is a cold sore is herpes. I ask all believe it is only a split in the side of my mouth, I bought Carmex to help cold sores, but has not disappeared, and was about 3 or 4 days! Help! I take photos! Simply copy and paste in the taskbar or whatever!
